In her honor, 𝐀 𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐱 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐁𝐮𝐫𝐧 (thank you @PenguinTeen for my gifted copy!), which is edited by Patrice Caldwell, was created to continue her legacy. ⁣ ⁣ This book is an anthology of sixteen short stories focused on black girl magic by an all-star line up that includes @whimsicalaquarian, @brownbookworm, @ibizoboi, @acevedowrites, & @cndwrites just to name a few. ⁣ ⁣ This amazing book also serves as my #coffeeandcurrentlyreading which is a challenge hosted by the lovely @thelittlereadingmermaid!⁣ ⁣ So far, I have read five of the stories, and I am already so in love! These are the stories that I wish I had growing up, but you better believe I am savoring now. I hope you’re all having a wonderful day! ⁣ ⁣ I recently finished The Claires by @clgaber (HUGE thank you to @wunderkindpr for my gifted copy #partner)! ⁣ ⁣ This story follows the lives of four fraternal quadruplet girls. Each of them is named Claire, and they each possess a magical ability. The kicker? They always die on their seventeenth birthday...a cycle that has been happening since the early 1900s. ⁣ ⁣ The Claires is a fast-paced novel that gives insight into the lives of four teenage girls by alternating between each of their POVs in both past and present. Each of the girls' character is well defined and complex. I always love morally grey characters, which is exactly what you get here, but once we get their brother Cass's POV, the girls definitely become even darker. I do read obligations by publication date, but I very much pick books based off of what I’m feeling. It’s the best way for me to avoid slumps.
